SBB keeps Switzerland moving.
The Swiss are the «European champions» of rail travel. In 2010, 347.1 million people travelled with SBB. That is almost half the number that travelled by air in the whole of Europe. On average, a Swiss resident travels about 2000 kilometres by rail every year, and a third of the Swiss hold travel passes for regular public transport use. Every day, the 3000-kilometre network carries 8000-9000 passenger trains and 220,000 tons of freight. 28,000 employees work round the clock to keep the trains running safely and punctually. So SBB isn’t just the largest travel and transport company in Switzerland, it’s also one of the biggest employers.
